Heads Up Brain Injury Support provides personal – hands on – support & services to individuals who have sustained a brain injury, their families and caregivers. Of the 1.7 million who sustain a TBI each year in the US, 80% of those will be treated and released from a hospital emergency room – with no idea what to do, where to turn to find help. Heads Up was formed to help meet those needs. Based in Paola, Kansas in Miami County we hold monthly meetings with people coming from Linn, Miami, Johnson & Douglas counties in Kansas, and Cass County in Missouri.
We are a community support organization committed to providing information and encouragement to not only those who attend our meetings, but to those in our community and surrounding areas that struggle in the recovery from brain injury, with the complex and often overwhelming search for resources and the proper help.
Our members are stroke survivors, victims of domestic violence, of vehicle accidents, etc. Acquired or traumatic – brain injuries are devastating and life changing. But together we can learn to do more than just survive our injuries. With the proper resources, with the right help and guidance we can often learn to do more than just survive, we can thrive.
At Heads Up we understand the life challenges and frustrations you face.
Going to Gardner 12/13/11 to the rehabilitation hospital, was not only help for the patients there, but a lot of help for us,being under preassure and giving an imprompto speech, was good for our minds trying to put across the out come of them being there, where we were at one time, and see what it has done for us,and why we have the organization (Heads Up).I think it will give em some thought that after they get home, there are still ones who will listen, understand, and care about their flustration, and try to help in their recovery.
I want to let you know what a great job Joe White did with his presentation at Louisburg High School on Thursday, March 15th. The students were engaged with him throughout the presentation. His message is a powerful one! I visited with the principal later that afternoon and he reported that many students thanked him for scheduling this assembly.
While your organization has its main focus on helping those with brain injuries, I know this type of program can help with prevention and that is so very important.
Thank you so much for making this presentation available in our area. It would be great if we could have him come back and visit with our middle school students. Parents also need to hear this message.
Heads Up brain injury support depends entirely on the generous support of our volunteers and sponsors. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible.
